Enhanced Abilities: Aquaman has superhuman strength, agility and endurance.
Atlantean Heritage: Aquaman is biologically adapted to the deep ocean environment. Aquaman can breathe underwater, endure the pressures of the deep (among other adaptations), and can only spend a very limited time out of water. He is also a master swimmer.
Marine Telepathy: Aquaman has the ability to communicate directly with sea life and has done so throughout most of his life. Lately he possesses a greater range of control that can actually force sea creatures to obey his whims.
Enhanced Senses: Aquaman has enhanced sight, hearing and smell.
Sonar Location: A sonar power which allows Aquaman to detect things when blinded.
Magic: His mutation into the dweller of the Deep through a bargain with ancient sea gods gave him untold amounts of powerful ancient magics.
Black Power Ring: The Black Lantern Rings are capable of wielding the black energy outside of the Emotional Electromagnetic Spectrum. When Black power rings choose wearers, they present themselves to the deceased without a charge. The rings (which constantly ask for "flesh") are recharged by killing living beings and removing their hearts; each heart restores .01 percent power to every ring in the Corps. Black Lanterns are also able to read the emotions of the living as a coloured aura that correlates to the emotional spectrum (red for rage, violet for love, etc.). Black Lantern Rings will regenerate a corpse each time it is damaged, they can create constructs, but this ability is rarely used and they allow flight.

Origins:

Arthur Curry was the son of Atlanna, an Atlantean princess banished from Atlantis due to her interest in and frequent visits to the surface world; and Tom Curry, a surface man and lighthouse keeper. One night, amidst a terrible storm, Tom Curry would find Atlanna thrown up on the shore by storm-tossed waves, and rescue her from harm. Both Curry and Atlanna made the lighthouse their home and developed a strong bond that would quickly lead to a sentimental relationship, which in turn, would later lead to the birth of Arthur Curry. Tom Curry accepted his relationship with Atlanna, and though he always knew there was more to her than she would let on, he'd never ask her about her origins. After Arthur was born, all of that became even more irrelevant as his presence there cemented the bond between the two.
Two years after his birth, young Arthur was found by his father playing underwater after he had apparently been there for an hour without drowning. Several years later, both Tom and Arthur himself would learn the truth about Atlanna's origins, as she would reveal that she came from the lost continent of Atlantis while she lay in her deathbed. Atlanna would also reveal to Arthur that he had inherited her ability to live and breathe underwater, as well as her power to communicate with and control all marine life.
After Atlanna's death, Arthur's father became determined to train him both physically and mentally so that he would one day be in complete control of his powers. Arthur was also taught by his father to view himself as someone special, as a saviour of the oceans, as The King of the Seven Seas.
Later, after his father's death, Arthur Curry would leave the lighthouse which had been a home to him and his family for years, to venture into the oceans and find his true destiny. He would later become the king of Atlantis and marry Mera, a visitor from an other-dimensional water-world know as Xebel. He would also take young Aqualad under his wing and fight the forces of evil side by side with the occasional help of his wife, Mera.
Over the years Aquaman became a hero and a keystone of the Justice League. He lost a hand in a battle with the villain Charybdis, which was eventually replaced with a harpoon and later a magical hand. Unfortunately the magic that was used to create Orin's water based prosthetic hand was used against him in a magic ceremony meant to save non water breathing survivors of Atlantis. Orin was horribly mutated into a creature known as the "Dweller of the Depths". In this form, Orin was killed in part by his one-time successor Arthur Joseph Curry who became the new Aquaman.
Aquaman was revived as one of the Black Lanterns whereby his hand has been restored to his corpse.
