| John Starr was a brilliant young scientist who worked as an assistant to Dr. Elijah Carruthers when Dr. Elijah Carruthers created an artificial humanoid called Cosmo. But Cosmo proved to be imperfect, so Carruthers destroyed him. Soon after, Carruthers vanished and was believed dead. | ||||
| Starr then turned to crime, but was apprehended by the police and sent to prison. There he was permitted to work in a laboratory, but a special automated prison regarded as escape proof, where he worked on a discovery involving the control of time by harnessing the speed of light, the universal constant, and this enabled him to build an hourglass that sent him back in time to before the prison was built; then he escaped by simply walking away. He then adopted the identity of the Time Commander. | ||||
