| During the cold war, a child was born to soviet cosmonauts Paulin and Tor Avruskin aboard the God Hammer, a space-based nuclear weapons platform. When the station was blasted by a radioactive meteor shower, the child alone survived, crashing to earth in an escape pod. The orphan was drafted into the K.G.B’s Special Interests program and came to believe he was an alien who weakened under Earth’s yellow sun, the same star that empowered his spiritual opposite, Superman. Avruskin later slaughtered his superiors and was imprisoned. | ||||
| During solitary confinement, he was overtaken by an otherworldly blackness calling itself Zod, after General Zod a Kryptonian villain from a pocket universe who had been executed for the murder of billions.
