Years ago, the mystic entity Watoomb retired from mystic affairs and summoned sorcerer apprentices Doctor Strange and Cyrus Black to his dimension. He handed each one half of the Wand of Watoomb in a battle for possession. Black lost and spent years studying and training so that he might defeat Doctor Strange. He made pilgrimages, studied at the feet of adepts, killed to obtain forbidden books, and gathered a following of men.
