Daniel Berkhart was a criminal who happened to be cellmates with the civilian identity of the villain Mysterio, Quentin Beck. Beck was a disgruntled Hollywood special effects wizard who used his talents to begin a criminal career, although he was constantly running afoul of the hero Spider-Man. For purposes of his own, he revealed many of his secrets to fellow Berkhart, giving him plenty of information to become a new Mysterio. | ||||
When Berkhart was released, newspaper editor J. Jonah Jameson, who held a vendetta against Spider-Man, contacted him. At the time, Mysterio had faked his own death, and Jameson paid Berkhart to impersonate the villain and battle Spider-Man as the ghost of Mysterio. Years later after the original Mysterio killed himself Berkhart reclaimed the identity again. |
