| Griffin Grey was a factory worker at Keystone Motors. Despite being raised by his grandparents, he had a belligerent disregard for his elders. His primary interests were partying and women. |
| After an explosion at the plant, Griffin was rescued by Jay Garrick and was hospitalised in a serious condition. While in the hospital, Griffin collapsed and was filled with a greenish aura, which healed him. The next day, while giving a statement to police on live TV, a greenish glow surrounded him and he leaped up to a catwalk, rescuing a falling cameraman. |
| A few nights later, Griffin took on the identity of The Griffin and attempted to become a superhero. Instead of being the hero, however, Griffin nearly caused a child to fall to his death, and is only bailed out by Jay Garrick, who advised him to give up the amateur heroics. |
