Enhanced Abilities: Martian Manhunter has super human strength, agility, speed and endurance. |
Malleable Form: Martian Manhunter like all Martians possesses a psionic control over his physical form, even down to the molecular level. As a form of shape-shifting, this power enables a Martian to contort his or her physical structure allowing them to adopt human form, elongate their limbs and grow to immense size. |
Invisibility: Martian Manhunter possesses the ability to bend waves of light around him, rendering him invisible to most forms of human detection. |
Density Manipulation: Martian Manhunter can increase his molecular density to become tougher and stronger, as well as decrease it to become incorporeal and thus able to pass through solid objects. |
Invulnerability: With the exception of fire, a Green Martian is invulnerable to nearly all physical attacks. |
Regeneration: Martian Manhunter can quickly recover from almost any injury. He is able to reconstitute his body even when severed into several pieces. |
Flight: Martian Manhunter can defy gravity and fly through sheer force of will, this ability is psionic in nature. |
Telepathy: Martian Manhunter possesses the ability to read the minds of others and project his thoughts to a varying degree. His telepathic abilities also allow him to create realistic illusions; telepathically trace and locate people; shut down people's minds; influence thoughts; mind control people; induce sleep; cause mental trauma; enter or exit the astral plane; reprogram or reorder minds; and transfer information directly into people's brains. |
Martian Vision: Martian Manhunter is able to project heat beams from his eyes. |
X-Ray Vision: Martian Manhunter is able to see through objects. |
Self-Sustenance: Martian physiology is self-sufficient negating the need for food or drink. |
Black Power Ring: The Black Lantern Rings are capable of wielding the black energy outside of the Emotional Electromagnetic Spectrum. When Black power rings choose wearers, they present themselves to the deceased without a charge. The rings (which constantly ask for "flesh") are recharged by killing living beings and removing their hearts; each heart restores .01 percent power to every ring in the Corps. Black Lanterns are also able to read the emotions of the living as a coloured aura that correlates to the emotional spectrum (red for rage, violet for love, etc.). Black Lantern Rings will regenerate a corpse each time it is damaged, they can create constructs, but this ability is rarely used and they allow flight. |

J'onn J'onzz, from the mid 18th-century up to the mid 20th-century, had been a Manhunter on the planet Mars in our own solar system. A Martian Manhunter is akin to our own policemen and detectives, and J'onn was a commendable crime fighter on his planet. He had a wife and a daughter, M'yri'ah and K'hym, whom he loved deeply. The Martians had been a thriving and space-faring race for centuries, even venturing to Earth on occasion, inadvertently inspiring the Egyptians to build their colossal pyramids. However, their doom was approaching swiftly. |
J'onn's own brother, Ma’alefa’ak, had been stripped of his fellow Martians' innate telepathic gifts for the crime of mind "raping" another, and had grown very bitter over time. In his anger and insanity, he created something that would come to be called Hronmeer's Curse after the Martian God of Death. It was a plague that preyed on a Martian's natural fear and weakness to fire. J'onn learned of his plan to destroy their race from the inside out, but was unable to stop him. J'onzz was then abruptly the last of his own race, and nearly lost his mind. |
J'onn wandered the red dusts of Mars and in 1955, a scientist named Dr. Erdel discovered lost Martian teleportation technology here on Earth, and whilst investigating it, brought the green skinned creature known as J'onn J'onzz. This sudden revelation caused Dr. Erdel to have a violent heart attack and die, leaving J'onn stranded on a foreign planet with malfunctioning teleportation technology. |
J'onn J'onzz became a super hero, the Martian Manhunter and a stalwart of many Justice League teams until he was captured by Dr. Light and Effigy and brought to the villain Libra who stabbed him through the heart with his spear tipped scale thus fulfilling the Human Flame's inner most desire to have him killed. |
J'onzz ‘s remains were interred in a pyramid removed from Egypt and placed back in it's original location on Mars in a ceremony attended by many heroes, until resurrected by a Black Lantern power ring. |
